Cyclades
AlterPath™ ACS - Application Notes
Worldwide Management of Servers in Manufacturing Facilities
The scenario:
This Cyclades customer is a worldwide manufacturer of plumbing materials and accessories. Their facilities include diverse
servers spread over the American and Asian continents, and require close monitoring. Designing an effective management of
networked servers is vital for all corporate operations. Disaster prevention and recovery is an essential part of the
global server management plan.
The problem:
How to manage the servers at headquarters, manufacturing and distribution facilities under one integrated interface.
Network this scale requires constant changes and the solution must have enough flexibility to make quick configuration
changes as needed, as unobtrusively as possible. Most remote server management solutions do not meet the reliability
requirements nor are flexible enough to quickly address system actions or changes.

The solution:
Use the Cyclades-TS800 and the TS1000 machines to interface with the servers used for manufacturing and distribution
across the worldwide network. Servers can be securely managed from the headquarters or from anywhere via the TS units.
TS units embed a well-designed flexible system based on the Linux that makes them one of the most robust and reliable
systems on the market.

Cyclades-TS800 and TS1000 had the convenient port density to connect
to the servers spread over the network across the word. The worldwide
manufacturer has a multitude of servers dedicated to everything from
global management to US and international manufacturing and distribution.
A sound network is the key factor in the coordination of all operations
from the Americas to the Asia, to realize their strategy to create
a sustainable competitive advantage through Market Leadership.
The solution has to be very flexible, as dynamic system and marketing
requirements are to demand constant configuration changes in the
network. Network Administrators praised the ease of configuration
and flexibility of the TS units, as well as their high reliablity
which required them little attention.
Network Analysts praised the features built into the products.
They were well-engineered and they could be used for RAS, backup
system alerting, as well as paging when network communication was
not available. Direct monitoring of the TS ports was remarkably
simple and all required parameters were configurable. The Sun break-safe
was an essential feature for a reliable interface to the Sun servers.
TS units were Linux-based and had incomparable flexibility.
The Cyclades units are also an integral part of the disaster prevention
and recovery plan, as they are to play a key role in the quick course
of actions involved in the network reconfiguration and recovery
process.
